The latest Developer Direct shed light on many of Xbox's upcoming projects, but in case you missed it, there was also a stream at the very end sharing the latest news about Elder Scrolls Online.
The highlight was the reveal of Gold Road - a brand-new expansion featuring a new zone, storyline, scribing system, and much more. This is available to pre-purchase now across all platforms including Xbox Series X|S and will launch on June 18, 2024 (there's also an upgrade version and Deluxe Edition). You'll receive a free mount, pet, and some other goodies, too.
"This new Chapter takes you to West Weald, a region situated on the borders of Cyrodiil, the Gold Coast, and Valenwood. Those Elder Scrolls fans who played 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion might be familiar with this part of Tamriel, including its capital city of Skingrad."
In Spring 2024, there'll also be a prologue quest for this new expansion, which will set up the events of the upcoming chapter and will be available to anyone who owns a copy of ESO.
Along with this was the reveal of the Scions of Ithelia dungeon DLC, which will be arriving on March 26, 2024 on Xbox. It introduces two new 4-player dungeons, Oathsworn Pit and Bedlam Veil and continues the story from last year's Necrom Chapter. This content will come with multiple difficulties and also feature achievements and rewards.
"These dungeons allow you to explore a training ground for the followers of Malacath and a secret vault within the Oblivion demi-realm of Maelstrom. Both dungeons help set the stage for the upcoming Chapter in their own way, but their storylines can be enjoyed individually, too."
ESO will be sharing a "first look" livestream at this particular content next week on January 26, 2024 and there'll also be a public test server of Update 41 and Scions of Ithelia, starting January 29, 2024.
Last but not least is a 2024 content roadmap which outlines everything coming to the game this year. It also happens to mark 10 years of The Elder Scrolls Online. This will be a "15-month celebration" that includes an in-person celebration event between April 5 - April 6, 2024, in-game rewards and "more".
For a limited time, The Elder Scrolls Online is also allowing players to experience previous chapters for free. This includes over 20 DLC packs but does not feature Necrom or the Gold Road. In addition to this are a bunch of Q1 2024 events taking place in-game right now. There's a 'Guilds and Glory' celebration, Whitestrake's Mayhem in February, and Jester's Festival in March.
You can get the full rundown on everything on its way to Elder Scrolls Online this year in the full recap video below:

Man, I must underestimate the player base for this game. For expansions to keep getting whacked out, it surely must be pretty popular still.
I started it last night, it's basically Skyrim on a bigger scale
@Kaloudz This game is chock full of people playing, especially on PC and Xbox-NA. I have characters on both PC and Xbox and there are always people running around questing in the overworld, and I've never had any issues getting into dungeon groups with people via the dungeon finder tool. ESO is definitely one of the most populated MMO's out there alongside WoW and FF14.
@GamingSince84 I've tried it a few times but I always feel so overwhelmed by things to do, that I fear I wouldn't be able to try everything in my lifetime 🤣
@Kaloudz On Steam it hits about 20,000 concurrent players everyday, and it launched there after everywhere else so I assume it is one of the smaller player bases. I know that the online enthusiast crowd tends to dislike these MMO style games (FFXIV, Sea of Thieves, Fallout76, etc.) but they all have pretty healthy player bases even after all these years.
Just makes me excited for TES6!
@InvaderFromSpace Ah right. 20k concurrent sounds decent to me. Even for the smallest base. For me I'm looking forward to FF14. I think as a FF fan, that has more of a chance at gripping me long-term.
@Kaloudz I've played FF14 on PC for years, off and on, and while I do love it I do have to say the MSQ of the base game is ab absolute slog to get through and you do a TON of racing back and forth over the same areas to complete quests in the main story. This got a bit better as the expansions released through the years, but that first base game main story quest is a real bore. Dungeons and raids are pretty fun, as is the expansion stories, so there is a lot to love.
@GamingSince84 Ah man. I'll have to wade through it and see if I can break it to the first expansion. I know nothing about it whatsoever. When you say raids and such, is that with other players? And do you know if it scales? Or will I be carried through (which I find boring) by experienced over powered players?
@Kaloudz Raids are done with other players, as are dungeons, all of which you can use the finder tool and the system will pair you up with other players and drop you into the dungeons. It's a quick and snappy tool for those who love the big fights. To s of XP and gear can be had grinding dungeons and raids.
I've been playing it since release in 2013 or 2014 and it has changed and grown so much. I do multiplayer stuff sometimes, but I mostly just do quests. I keep buying the expansions is why I'm still playing it and the reason I keep buying the expansions is because they put them on sale every year really cheap. So I guess it's going to be an endless cycle.
