PC>>>>console , that’s if you want the true answer 😏

but if you’re not interested in playstation exclusives & just simply want a powerful good console that plays games at its best then there’s no reason to get a playstation. The series X as a console alone is superior to the ps5 in almost every way except controllers which is subjective.

@Jevgenip47 'Better' comes down to personal preference. If you 'prefer' the Playstation Controller, its layout and/or extra features it has, then that maybe the 'better' Console for you. Same with the 'exclusives' - although all of Xbox 'exclusives' are on PC too and can use whatever Controller you prefer.

As for 3rd Party multi-platform comparisons - they are pretty 'evenly' matched. Sometimes Xbox may have a 'slight' advantage in some areas with PS5 having slight advantages in some areas too. So as 'hardware' where they do 'compete' evenly, both will 'generally' be quite evenly matched. It then comes down to the 'differences' that really separate the two and will ultimately decide which will suit you best - things like the Controller and the exclusives you can only play on that Console, assuming you have no other Gaming hardware like a PC.

Both have a Large Library of Games available as both have Back Compat with last gen hardware - so you can factor in those exclusives too. Also, if you own a PS4 or XB1, you may prefer to buy a Console you can play the 'older' Gen games you bought. Both require at least a minimum Sub fee to play Online and each has a tiered service offering a bigger library of games to play - Game Pass or PS+.

There are too many 'subjective' aspects to determine which is the better Console. The 'best' on paper for example may not be the 'best' option for you because you 'prefer' the others Controller, Exclusives etc and/or have a library of games carrying forward...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

Technically, Series X is better than PS5. Series S|X has also more benefits: free and enhanced backwards compatibility, Play Anywhere, FPS Boost, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Quick Resume (that will become a standard feature in the future) and a more comprehensive UI.

This depends on where the majority of your game library from Xbox One / PS4 gen falls into as @BAMozzy mentioned. If you're just starting out, the Xbox enhances the graphics of all the games that are on the backwards compatibility list (All Xbox One games, a quarter of Xbox 360, and a dozen original Xbox games). The PS5 has full PS4 compatibility. And you can play PS1, PS2, PSP digital games whilst PS3 games are streamable to play.

The Series X is the more powerful console whilst the PS5 has a slightly faster loading and games take up less space. Plus it's cheaper to upgrade your storage on PS5. As @Banjo- said, the Series X/S allows Quick Resume and every game you insert is automatically downloaded without needing the disc after installation anymore. The Xbox has a good number of exclusive titles now that the Bestheda/Activision merge has gone through. You'll be happy in the FPS and Western RPG department, whilst on PS5 you'll be happy with the first party and third party exclusives with JRPGs.

Is that correct? I don't doubt the games are installed rather than playing directly from the disc, but I'm pretty sure you still need to insert the disc to play the game.

@dmcc0 You're right. I have the Rare Replay collection and when I downloaded it from the disc I was able to play the downloaded games fine without the disc. But after double checking the same didn't happen with Lost Odyssey or Gears of War.

I have both consoles and I have to state that I strongly favor my Series X. I play exclusives only on my PS5. Demon's Souls was incredible and I played it for at least a few months. And there have been a few more. Only a few though. The Series X is my go to console. Game Pass has so many great games in my opinion and everyone that I game with (probably around 20 gamers) has a Series X.

I have both consoles. I use the Xbox more due to Gamepass. Technically, both are similar and play current games with similar looking graphics and 60fps performance modes. The Xbox Series X has a bigger SSD (1Tb) to the PS5 (825Gb). If you install and play a host of games at the same time, then the Xbox has more storage space. The PS5 is backward compatible to PS4 games, but not PS3 or earlier. Xbox Series X can play any previous Xbox games.

Xbox Gamepass is the 'best value' to check out and play a host of games that you missed, never considered, or waste $US70 on. Xbox 1st-party titles are released Day One. One drawback is that games are downloaded in full, so if you don't have great broadband then it will take many hours or the entire day. PS5 games come on physical, so you can install the 50Gb or 100Gb game much quicker, but are subject to still download the games patches / updates which can be any size.

As to games, then suggest go to a videogame store and look over various titles, and decide what ones you prefer. Playstation 1st-party games are excellent with great gameplay and heavily story-driven. If that's your thing, then go with PS5. If it doesn't matter, then consider Xbox bundled with Gamepass.

@InsaneWade It depends on if those games are included in Game Pass and you are subscribed to it. Then you don't need the discs at all. @SingleStooge Just my opinion but I'd say that yes, Sony's games are heavily story-driven but the resulting gameplay is mediocre, at best.

As far as consoles go both are pretty identical. I know a fair few games do run better on PS5 initially but Series X usually release a patch that evens things up a bit. There are small advantages to both like quick resume on Xbox an the PS5 SSD being far superior. I like both pads but the haptics on the PS5 pad wins that one for me. Xbox has slightly more memorey but the PS5 has cracken which can squash files down to half the size meaning games take up to half the memory. Also upgrading the SSD is cheaper on PS5. Both have backwards compatibility, see a lot say Xbox has better back compat but that isn’t strictly true. Series X can play Xbox One games, about 500 Xbox 360 games and a handful of og Xbox games.
PS5 can play PS4 games, stream PS3 games and you can get PS1 an PS2 games from PS+.
The one thing for me that put’s PS5 on top is the games. PS5 games just hit different. They have the best gameplay, incredible stories, incredible characters and acting as good as any movie or series you’ve watched. If i was to name my favourite Xbox exclusive games there’d be 2 or 3 games. If i was to name my Playstation fav exclusives there’d be over 10 games! It is a fact the exclusives are the reason Playstation steamrolled in 1st place after PS3/360 days an don’t look like letting up any time soon. PS5 has sold far more consoles than SeeiesS/X an is currently outselling it 3-1. All about the incredible exclusives.

@Bonjo One criticism that could be levelled at PlayStation exclusive games is that they are all pretty formulaic - for the most part they all seem to be Cinematic action adventure games, just with a different setting. I guess it just comes down to individual tastes though.

I bought an Xbox (my first) this gen after skipping last gen gen altogether and owning PS1 - PS3. The thing that swayed it for me was Game Pass and the backwards compatibility - meaning I'd have the ability to buy/play games from previous gens on Xbox that I'd never played before. If PS5 had offered BC with my previous gen discs and the ability to still purchase others online too, I would've probably gone PS5 immediately this Gen. As it happens I didn't, but I'm still looking to get a PS5 at some point in the future because I would like to play the likes of Spider-Man, Horizon, GoW etc at some point.

While the exclusives are a factor in the PS5 outselling Xbox, a lot of it is down to the head start they already had in the previous Gen too - those that already have a PS4 are unlikely to dump their entire library of games to go with Xbox this gen, no matter what the exclusives are.

@dmcc0 Thats my biggest problem with PS exclusive games to me I just feel like I am playing an interactive movie. I get the same satisfaction playing a 60+ hour PS game as I do an 8 hour movie. Honestly I just dont have the time for that. If I am going to play a game I want to play a game. Something like Mario Wonder or a competitive game like CoD or a game like Stardew Valley.

Dont get me wrong, some of the stories they come up with like Uncharted or even Spider-man are great but I will just go and watch the Uncharted movie or a Spider-man movie to scratch that itch.

Of course with Sony having a background in the film industry its understandable that that is how their games come out.

@Tasuki It's odd because the likes of Ubisoft get a lot stick because of the perception of the having "the Ubisoft open-world game" with the likes of Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs & Far Cry games, yet Sony seem to get a free pass for doing the same albeit with a different genre. Don't get me wrong, I do like these types of games, but in moderation - I don't think I could play them all back to back without a bit of variety in both genre and length of game.

Thinking back, that's possibly why I skipped the last gen altogether after getting burnt out on the sheer length of most of the games I played back then - both Action Adventure and Open World stuff like Uncharted, Arkham Asylum, Assassin Creed, InFamous, Uncharted, Red Dead, MGS4 etc. I don't recall playing many shorter games at the time.

Now I make a point of not going onto something similar immediately after finishing a game and I enjoy it a lot more.

PS5 is the best for sure. The main reason is great exclusives (from Sony or from other publishers - doesn't matter), because games is the only thing that really matter. Other things just secondary. Yes, it have the best gamepad, more smooth fps in multiplatform games, better design, faster SSD, backward compability with leader of last console generation and may other things. But should I mention all of it, if we can just look on sales? Peoples vote with their own money and they chose the best option for them.
And modern Xbox consoles is just useless for me. Main reason is that the primary platform for Microsoft is Game Pass for now, not Xbox. And Game Pass is useless for me, because I prefer to own games that I like. I can get them in Steam easily. I don't need Xbox for it. Backward compability with XOne? - I still can get all that games in Steam. Backward compability with X360? - Then why half of my X360 library just didn't work on it? Backward compability with Xbox Original? - Is that joke? A few ports just can't be called a "backward compability". Backward compability with it even on my X360 is much better. All other things just don't matter.
And I understand that series S is cheap and perfect Game Pass machine (idk why series X still exists with current Microsoft philosophy). It may be a great option for new gamers, but not for core console gamers like me.

This isn't like the olden days. Both Xbox and PlayStation have a significant library of games. Either console is worth your time.

Both have subscription services for an instant game collection. Most games come to both platforms.

Personally I find the series x quieter, the controller is comfortable and the user interface more intuitive. It also fits into my front room setup better.

I needed a break from Sonys 3rd person action adventures, as much as The last of us, Spiderman and God of War are best in class. And arguably better than any comparable gams on xbox. I was burned out come the end of Ghost of Tsushima and have enjoyed the variety on xbox; Flight sim, Age of empires, Rare Replay and Forza Horizon.

This isn't like taking a chance on the Sega 32x or picking up a Nintendo Gamecube and missing out on 80% of new releases. The margins are tighter and both are great consoles.
